What Causes Bleeding Between Periods While Taking Birth Control Pills?

Hello, I have been on birth control for about 10 months now. I was on a lower dosage before and now switched to a higher dosage for the past 3 months. This month I have been break through bleeding between my periods. I have been taking my pill on schedule and have never had this problem before. I was wondering what the cause of that might be? Is it possible that it is stress related?
