What Causes Bleeding During Periods?

im nealry 20 years old and i have been on the pill since i was 16. About 12 months ago i had mid-cycle bleeding, so my GP chnaged my pill to one with a higher dosage and referred me to have and external and internal ultrasound but nothing appeared abnormal. Since the end of December 2009 i have bled 4 times (2 of which were my normal periods). On the 8th(as my period was ending) of feb 2010 i consulted my GP who advised me to stop taking my pill for one month. she also conducted a pap smear yesterday (11th of feb). However, this morning i woke feeling wet and i was bleeding again. i have made another appointment to see my GP. the bleeds are not just spotting; they are like a period. My tummy appears a little bloated and it is a bit sore. I am starting to becom a bit worried..
