What Causes Bleeding From The Gum?

I am 80 years old and in good health. Lately man gum/teeth started bleeding esp. at night when I am brushing my teeth. If I use my fingers it does not bleed.but still I like brush better.... Is it the sign of high blood pressure? or diabetes or anything else? I have my 28 teeth and all of them are very healthy. My dentist and gum specialists have no satisfying answer.I am just confused. Pl. help.Thanks. Sunita.

Hi Dear,

understanding your concern. As per your query you have problem of bleeding of gums which is because of inflammation and ulceration of gingival mucosa leading to periodontitis mainly due to age related ages. Need not to worry. Maintain proper oral hygiene. Visit dentist once and get it examined. Go for quadrant scaling and root planing. Use listerine and betadine mouth wash. Do gargles after every meal to prevent bacterial accumulation. Go for curettage. Rinse mouth after every meal to prevent bacterial accumulation. Give cold packs to his gums to relieve pain and discomfort . If there is pain in gums anaesthetic gel application can help by giving numbing effect. Dentist may perform oral prophylaxis or may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get well Soon.
Best Wishes,
