What Causes Bleeding In Between Periods?

My husband and I are trying to conceive and my period has been regular since my last child 3 years ago. I'm nor due for my period till the end of the month but woke up and was bleeding. From everything I've read it sounds like it could be yet not likely implantation bleeding. Could there be something wrong?
