What Causes Bleeding In The Nose Which Runs Through The Throat?
My mother is 52 and for the last 4 days she has had severe nosebleeds that run through both her nose and throat. She has never had nosebleeds in her life And now she has had them constantly in the last 4 days. Today she has had the most happening like every other hour and now has pain in her ears and the back of her neck. And blood just started coming out of her ear. We went to the er the first day and they took a 2 second look at her and said its just a nose bleed and discharged her. This is still happening 3 days later and seems to be getting worse. What could this be and should we go back to the hospital?
Nose bleeds in elderly may be due to: 1. Uncontrolled hypertension 2. On anticoagulant drugs 3. Nasal pricking 4. malignancy
Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid excessive sneezing of nose. Avoid dryness of nasal mucosa. Use nasoclear normal saline nasal spray. Pressure for 5-10 seconds may give relief. If no improvement please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
