What Causes Bleeding When Trying To Miss Period By Skipping Pill?

I'm on the pill and attempted to miss a period ie skip the white pills and start a new pack straight away. Not only did I not miss my period, though, but the bleeding is lingering. It's not bad enough to wear a tampon but is definitely still bleeding and is making me miss having sex. can I make it stop?
