What Causes Blister Like Bumps On Body After Falling On Gras?

My twelve year old daughter , has never had any issue with what im going to ask you , just this year this happened. She was at a camp ground couple of monthes ago and playing in the grass, and on a slip and slide she got up after three times of that and started with itching not even ten minutes later covered an these bumps all over different sizes but looked like blisters/ welts. Then after about fifteen to twenty minutes they all disappear. Then about two weeks ago she was home and outside playing on the slip and slide and same reaction, after it went a way I had her go over and touch the slip and slide with just her arm and she started itching her arm and broke out on her arm. Is it something in the water, the grass , or pvc construction of the slip and slide? But then she told me that it has happeded at this huge pond that is for the public. So any ideas I do have pics just need a email. Any ideas?

Hi,

Brief answer: In my opinion, your daughter likely has an allergy to grass pollen. Allergy testing can confirm the diagnosis.

Detailed answer: An allergy to grass pollen is very common in children. Allergies can present in different ways. In some people when they breathe in grass pollen, it cause sneezing, stuffy, runny, and itchy nose or watery, red, and itchy eyes. In other people allergies can cause cough, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Some people only have an allergic reaction if the grass touches their skin, with small red bumps (hives or welts) appearing within minutes on the areas of skin that touched the grass.

Allergy testing can be performed by an allergy doctor (allergist) to determine if your child is allergic to grass. In the meantime, wash any exposed skin areas with warm water and gentle cleanser. Cold compresses and calamine lotion can be applied to help relieve the hives and itching. The allergy doctor will have more guidance about how to manage and treat allergies.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Shapiro, General & Family Physician
