What Causes Blisters Below The Knee After A Hip Replacement Surgery?

My husband had hip replacement surgery on Mon March 7. On the surgery leg, but below the knee, he has developed these HUGE blisters - 2-3" wide and about 1/2 - 1" tall - full of a clear (not pussy) fluid. What can we do about these? The Doctor does not seem concerned but we certainly are.
