What Causes Blisters On The Forearms And Fingers While On Sulfasalazine?

I am taking sulfasalazine for zeronegative rheumatoid arthritis and in my 3rd week taking 1 tablet in the AM and 2 at bedtime. I was also taking Amoxicillin for a very sore red throat & I know one can have a rash with it and was also taking methylprednisolone for severe arthritis pain. I now have blisters on my forearms and fingers. They start out under the skin and then emerge and turn red. Looks like hives and luckily do not itch. I am wondering if this is a reaction to the 2 drugs as a rash with blisters is listed as a side effect for the sulfasalazine. Am wondering if I should continue the sulfasalazine and will not be able to reach my doctor until Monday. Also wondering if Benadryl might help stop the emergence of more blisters.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I have gone through your complaints and it could be an allergic rash to sulfasalazine. You should stop sulphasalazine and take benedryl. Also consult your doctor at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
