What Causes Block Like Feeling In Throat When Swallowing?

sometimes when i am swallowing rice it lodges heavily in my throat to the point where i am unable to swallow (which really scares me). I usually reach for a drink to wash it down. It is very uncomfortable and difficult to swallow the water down through the block in my throat but somehow it squeezes itself down through the block and releases it.is this anything to worry about or should i just avoid eating dry rice. i am middle aged and normal weight and height.

Hello,

Your problem could be a mass or narrowing at upper end of food pipe.

Gen Adv.

1. Avoid tobaco & / or alchohol if any you have
2. Avoid spicy and oily food and/or beverages

Next Step:

1. Have physical examination by an ENT specialist
2. Imaging
3. Blood count
4. Endoscopic examination of the throat and aerodigestive tract.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
