What Causes Blockage And Green Fluid Discharge In The Ears?
My left ear has been blocked on and off for 2 months, and fluid builds up mainly at night. Initially the ear discharge smelled, but now is yellow/ green in color with not much of an odor. This began after my summer pool closed, and I used Debrox to try to loosen wax for a audiologist to remove. I canceled my visit as I felt fluid and discomfort in my ear afterwards. Feeling of fullness has continued on and off with breaks often during the day only now.
Blocked ear along with yellow/ green drainage is pointing towards ear infection causing fluid accumulation in the ear..
Blocked feeling or congestion can be probably due to blocked eustachian tubes..
So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room or an ENT Physician and get evaluated..
You can be advised a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers and antibiotic ear drops.. Decongestant nasal sprays can help in clearing blockage..
In case if it does not improve with medication then surgical drainage of ear can be done and if needed ear tubes or pressure equalisation tubes can be placed..
You should avoid picking ear with q-tips to clear it off as it can further cause injury.. Also avoid swimming or exposing ear to water for long.. Keep the ear clean and dry..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
