Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thanks, my GP has prescribed Atrovent 22mcg to try before I contact the Ear Nose & Throat Specialist (again). I saw him about 3 yrs ago. My nose blocks up every night - but only when I m lying down. It disrupts my sleep. I ve been using Otravin just about every night lately but shouldn t. It works well though. The specialist had me trying Nasonex but that really didn t work -- I don t think my problem is due to allergy. How is Atrovent different from Nasonex and do you think it s worth trying? The specialist couldn t see any polyps but didn t do any X-rays or use any special instrument to examine me.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having symptoms of blockage in the nose every night which could be due to allergic rhinitis, nasal polyp and which can be caused by bacterial or viral infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order nasal swab test and blood tests to get complete examination done. Doctor may prescribe antibacterial ( amoxicillin) or anti viral ( acyclovir ) depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants . For now continue doing gargles and drink one spoon of honey mix with glass of lukewarm water. You should take nasal saline rinses on daily basis.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
