I seem to have a blocked right ear, and now a subtle hissing sound in the same ear, which is following a bad cold. Actually I also seem to have chronic sinus/allergy issues, so it has been hard to dfifferentiate betweeen all of this. But the "ear" issue is something that I have never experienced before. Can you help?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have blocked ears with hissing sound which could be due to Eustachian tube dysfunction, due to ear wax accumulation and due to enlarged adenoids or sinusitis. Need not to worry. Avoid touching or pricking ear with any sharp object. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist once and go for thorough examination of nasopharynx to rule out above mentioned causes. and start treatment as per proper diagnosis. If nasopharynx is find out to be clear and without any symptoms then blockage of eustachian tube will be the cause and it can be confirmed by audiometry. Till then avoid excessive blowing. Do warm saline gargles. Put nasal saline and ear drops. Take tablet tablet levocetrizine with phenylephrine once at night and use nasal sprays as well.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
