What Causes Blocked Nose And Headaches In A Child?

My 8 year daughter has had a caugh since Monday. She has a stuffy nose but has been blowing her nose throughout the day. She complain of headaches at night. I have give her cough Medicean twice and day since Monday and ibuprofen every eight hours since Thursday. Now she is starting to get bumps from her neck line down to her waist line and in her arm pits. What should I do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of blocked nose and headaches. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like sinusitis, eustachian tube dysfunction, ear infection or condition like meniere's disease. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult pediatrician before infection spread and make certain complications. Doctor may order CT scan for sinusitis , examination with laryngoscope , endoscopy to rule out ear infection and eustachian tube dysfunction. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin or penicillin at least for a week along with antiemetic and anti inflammatory , decongestant and expectorant. For now take steam, do not bend forward and do warm saline gargles several times a day. void taking cold beverages and do nasal saline rinses as well.
