What Causes Blood Clot Before Periods?

Hi my period is due in about a week and I just had what seems to be a blood clot (mucus with blood) while urinating. It just dropped and after I wiped no blood or anything. I did have irregular periods but I take oral birth control and now they re regular. I have never have a blood clot before a period.
