Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Dr. Rynne, I had multiple right-leg blood clots 7 years ago after an 8-hour! cardiac ablation. Was on coumadin 15 months, then was taken off. 1 1/2 years ago I developed a tiny clot in the left leg; it was lodged in the left leg after I d worn tourniquet-top knee high hose right for 3 days under the tourniquet. It went away with aspirin. I d like to take PEAK K2 (menatetranone) 15 mg/day (18,750% DV) for my severe [per DXA] osteoporosis, but I take 1 baby aspirin daily for the blood clot history: 4 enteric coated alternating with 3 chewable, per week. Would that make me prone to blood clots? & will that K2 help osteoporosis? Bonnie
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that there are many conditions that may lead to increased risk for venous blood clotting:
- immobilization,
- coagulation disorders,
- inflammation, etc.
For this reason, I recommend performing a Doppler ultrasound of the leg vessels to exclude possible varicose veins, which may predispose for clots and check coagulation tests in order to exclude a possible coagulation disorder.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
