my husband has had pains in his left side right to belly button area all week, docter told him he has inflammation in his bowel abd gave him buscopan.....syomtoms not residing and has passed blood. What could this be..I think he needs to go to emerg
You have not mentioned any history of your husband's past illness. Blood in the stool can be due to pile, anal fissure or hemorrhoids. If your husband does not suffer from all these than it can be due to GIT disease, IBS, GIT bleeding, colon cancer, etc.
He needs complete medical examination, CBC to determine if he is anemic. Stool examination (R/E & C/S) needs to be done to determine if its bright red blood, black tarry stool, dark blood mixed with stool, etc.
The site of the bleeding should be localized. Depending on the study investigations like colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, barium X-ray or CT may be recommended. He will be accordingly treated.
In the meantime, give him food rich in minerals, iron & protein. Keep him well hydrated. Let him have quality sleep. Get him treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K
