What Causes Blood Discharge Mid Cycle?

I am 46 years old...still get my period every 24 days, but after this last one I started having dark blood everytime I wiped...this has been going on for over 4 weeks now. Also I just got a call from my Dr. and my papsmear came back abnormal so I have to go back in six months...should I be worried?
