What Causes Blood Filled Lump By The Side Of Uvula?

I currently have the common cold, plugged nose but also runny and a lot of sneezing. It felt like something was in my throat when I would swallow so I looked in the mirror and there is a bloody looking lump by the uvula. I tried getting it off with a Q tip but it s attached. I did notice a small amount blood on the Q tip. It looks like it could come off soon but I m not sure. What could it be?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold and the symptoms of plugged nose but also runny and a lot of sneezing and also a bloody looking lump on uvula that seems to be an abscess is due to infection only as common cold is viral infection.
As it is a viral infection it will resolve once the virus will complete its cycle in human body..
You need not to worry as the lump will also resolve once the infection subsides..
As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
-Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..

-Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen..

-Take cough expectorant containing Gueifenesin and cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan.

-Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..

-Do steam inhalations..

-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..

-Sip on warm water throughout the day..

-Do warm compresses over chest..

Hopefully the symptoms will resolve within a week and if it worsen consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
