What Causes Blood From Nose After Hitting The Head?

Hello: My daughter hit her forehead yesturday on the bottom portion of the sofa. I noticed a little bit of light blood from her nose. She complained of pain so we put a cold compress on it along with giving her some ibprofin. We kept her up a couple of hours after to see if she felt or had any other symtom. Today she woke with a head-ache. Now it is 6:45pm she has not complaned all day but my other older daughter noticed that while taking her a bath she had a little bit more blood come out of my younger daughters nose. After asking my younger one if she felt any pain she said no. only when pressure is apllied to the area. Should I be concerned or worried???

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your daughter having had a hit on forehead over sofa, light blood from nose, recurred, pain on pressure over the part.
Nasal bleeding after hit on forehead can indicate towards a possible internal trauma to the nasal bone or inside structure.
And this should never be taken lightly.
I would advise you the following:
Take her to ENT Surgeon for nasal endoscopy, proper evaluation clinically and X-ray or CT scan as would be advised.
This will rule out or prove the injury and if not present can reduce the worry.
She may be given decongestant nasal drops, anti-inflammatory if required.
Keep her under observation for at least three days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
