Hello. Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic. During general anasthesia they put in an endotracheal tube. In some difficult cases intubation might cause some injury in the pharyngeal wall. This injury might be causing blood in phlegm. However it will heal with time. An endotracheal tube is not inserted into the lungs but only in the trachea. Antibiotics are given as a cover up measure to prevent any bacterial complications following general anesthesia. Hope I helped. Thanks.
