What Causes Blood In Phlegm While Suffering From Strep Throat?
Hi I keep having on and off strep throat. Now I got it again and in amoxicillin but yesterday I spit blood and tissue w blood. My throat feels better. I m still worried. I ll go to the doctor anyway but I just want a heads up as to why this is happening
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of blood in phlegm while suffering from strep throat which is because of persistence of infection and it could be due to damage to mucosa leading to bleeding.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to do betadine gargles 2-3 times a day. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Use mist humidifiers in room. consult ENT specialist for proper examination and treatment. You should go for blood test and sputum test and start treatment accordingly. Doctor may prescribe stronger antibiotics azithromycin and anti-inflammatory for longer duration.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
