What Causes Blood In Saliva And Spitting Up Of Tonsil Stones?
Have small traces of blood in saliva, mostly in the mornings. Saw ENT, but all he could see was a small irritation in throat. Prescribed nasil spray, "magic mouthwash" and Pevasid. All didn't help. Went back to ENT, scoped me again and suggested Singulair for allergies. Again, didn't help. Lastly, once in a while I spit up what I think are "pee" sized tonsil stones....food particles. Any ideas?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain blood in saliva can be due to a few common causes like tonsillitis, upper respiratory infection, sinusitis, acid reflux , oral and gum infections etc.. In case if there is spitting up of tonsil stones as well as you do not have been ruled out for any other illness there is a possibility that tonsils are inflamed and there is slight bleeding when you spit as inflamed structures have immature blood vessels that can rupture and bleed on slight stimulation.. In case if you have tonsil stones they should be removed by using a q-tip as they serve as a source for causing tonsil inflammation.. In case if the inflammation continues and stone formation is also frequent the physician can also advise you tonsillectomy.. As of now do warm saline gargles, avoid vigorous spiting and sip on plenty of warm water..
Hope this information helps..
