What Causes Blood In Saliva While Spitting Out Due To Acid Reflux?

Hi, I ate dinner, coughed once, had a taste of alfalfa in my mouth and it felt like acid reflux. Went to clear my throat and spit and kept spitting out some blood. It is slowly clearing now but it definitely came from throat and not the sinuses or mouth. I had Lasagna, broccoli, tomatoes and yogurt. I did take some digestive and vitamin supplements before dinner and just after. I do get acid reflux once in awhile. Thank for your help!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have blood in your saliva and you also suffering from acid reflux . Acidic content irritate the lining of throat and make it bleed . Well you need lifestyle changes as well as medication to get away with acid reflux condition . I would suggest you to avoid eating spicy and heavy food specially at night , eat small and frequent meals , sleep with your head elevated , take antcid like gelusil after every meal , take a light walk after every meal and eat at least hour before going to bed . Consult gastroenterologist for proper checkup . Doctor may order endoscopy or X-ray of upper digestive track to rule out conditions like sore throat or any dental infection . Doctor may prescribe H2 blocker and proton pump inhibitor along with medicine like sucralfate for proper healing of throat limning .
