Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband, age 69, has blood in his semen. He visited his doctor on 5/20 and they found nothing wrong and told him to come back in 4 months. However, this has continued to be a problem. What are some of the causes for this and what should he do?. He is also very tired and can t sleep at night. He has always been very active and in now very worried.
Hematospermia (presence of blood in the semen) can be caused by infection or inflammation of the prostate gland, epididymis, seminal vesicles, urethra, and vas deferens. Injury to the blood vessels surrounding the testicles and penis can also cause this condition.
Other causes include benign prostatic enlargement, polyps, cancer of the prostate, medical conditions like hypertension, leukemia, liver diseases, and HIV.He should consult a urologist for proper clinical assessment and relevant tests to find out the cause of hematospermia followed by appropriate treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
