What Causes Blood In Sputum After Taking Eliquis And Metoprolol?
My mom is 91. In March she had a pacemaker put in and went on Eliquis and metoprolol in April. First time ever she has ever been on medication. She is active and continues to work twice a week as a volunteer. Two nights ago she had a bit of phlegm and there was blood in it. It hasn t happened again and she has no other symptoms. It wasn t a cough, just phlegm. What could be causing it? I will call cardiologist on Monday.
As per my clinical experience, the Eliquis contains Apixaban which is molecule used for the control or prevention of blood clot formation via effect over platelets. The coughing of blood in sputum is side effect of the Eliquis and hence must be presented to an ER without delay for evaluation of coagulation profile, bleeding, clotting and activated partial thromboplastin time with platelet count.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
