What Causes Blood In The Stool And Passage Of Blood Without Bowel Movement?

I've been on vacation for the past week and got home yesterday. I had two separate episodes of blood in my stool and alone without a BM. A couple times I felt like I had to go, but all that came out was blood. This has also been associated with RLQ pain and cramping. I feel very bloated when I eat and this is something that has been going on for the last few weeks...but the blood is New. Should I go to ER in the morning?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. since there is history of vacation thus it could be gut infection [bloody diarrhea] due to inflammation of the gut but see a Doctor [general surgeon] to exclude any other cause of rectal bleeding with investigations like stool for fecal blood, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy. [and also for screening of bowel cancer]

2. the most important diagnosis after full investigation [in returning traveller] is post infectious Irritable Bowel Syndrome [where there is bloating, abdominal pain, cramping and may be sensitive to certain foods] so consult a Gastro enterologist.
