What Causes Blood In Urine After Ureteral Stent Placement?

my wife had kidney stone surgery 3 days ago. the doctor put a stent in her kidney after blasting and removing most of an 8mm stone. she has had blood in her urine since. sometimes more than others. is this normal? will this occur until the stent is removed?

The inconvenience of placing JJ stent?

- Can not predict the side effects of the stent will happen to the patient. Some stents easily tolerated. Others have problems as described below. Side effects may only exist for a few days or weeks after the first stent. Some other patients said their symptoms lasted during stent present in their bodies.
- JJ stent can cause hematuria at many different times. Typically, stents physical activity makes the body move in urine and blood may have. The patient feels pain in the flank, bladder area, groin, penis or urethra in men and women, sometimes the pain spread down both testicles. Pain and discomfort can be more pronounced after the physical activity or after urination.
- Stent can irritate the bladder and cause the patient to urinate more often, including the need to wake up at night to urinate. These symptoms will be improved after dosing. Stent rarely cause urine leakage in women.
The side effects will disappear after the withdrawal of the stent.
Pay more attention to what is being JJ stent?
- Drink at least 1½ to 2 liters of water a day
- Report immediately to your doctor if side effects occur discomfort
Seek medical care immediately if:

Pain often and not unbearable by stent
There are symptoms and signs of urinary infection (fever, chills, malaise and pain during urination)
Stent fall out
Blood in the urine more significantly.
