What Causes Blood In Urine And Back Spasm?

When I urinated I passed blood. Some time before, I had what I call, a spasm in my back that moved to my side. I did consult (by phone) an emergency room hospital , and was told to drink a lot of water, if it was pinkish color incouldvwait and see my family Doctor tomorrow, but if it stayed the same to go to the emergency room. What are your thoughts, and what could be wrong with me? Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. You are suffering from either kidney stones or a urinary tract infection both are very common causes behind blood in urine and pain in back and side of the abdomen. It does not seem that you will have to face an emergency visit to the hospital. As your doctor suggested, drinking lots of water will help and you can take a painkiller like Acetaminophen 500 mg or Ibuprofen 400 mg on 8-hourly interval for relief in pain.

The doctor may perform blood and urine analysis and you might have to go for antibiotics for relief from infection. Take rest.
