What Causes Blood In Urine While Having Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia?

my hsb is on sulfamethoxazole / TMP DS for urinary infection, has BPH. He has been on med for 7 days , now very sick to your stomach, pain in epi gastric area and banded around rib cage , back pain, looks flushed. We went to breaking the pills in half and taking 4 times a day to see if that would help the nausea, he takes with food and drinking extra fluids. He is getting to the point that he is rubbing chest and stomach to get relief. He does have a gall stone that they found in June when he ended up in ER for blood in the urine, maybe that is the problem? Wondering if I should take him to ER?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is a part of prostate enlargement.

If symptoms persist better to consult a urologist and plan for a cystoscopy to rule out other causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
