What Causes Blood In Urine While Having Hypertension?

I am a 65 year old male with hypertension that is controlled with medication. I recently had some blood in my urine; my physician gave me doxycycline and all was fine. Now, 6 weeks later, I feel pressure upon urination. No blood or discoloration as noticed. My blood work was normal for prostate cancer. What is the probable cause? Thank you.

Hello,

Blood in urine can be due to local urinary infection or urinary tract stones and in a few cases due to growths (benign or malignant).
You will need to repeat your urinalysis and have a urineculture as well. An abdominal ultrasound and an abdominal x-ray to check for urinary tract stones may be recommended as well. Blood tests do not rule out prostate cancer 100% so you will also need an examination of your prostate (rectal exam and an ultrasound of the prostate).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
