What Causes Blood On Q-tip After Cleaning Ear?

I am in my 2nd trimester of a high risk pregnancy. I got a shower and when I dried my ears with a q-tip, there was a small amount of blood on the q-tip. Could this be a ruptured ear drum? I am on blood thinners (lovenox) and have also had numerous nosebleeds. I have an appt with the doctor this afternoon.

Hello,

As long as you have not lost your hearing in this ear, the eardrum is not ruptured. In my opinion, the bleeding could be related to a little irritation in the outer ear. For this reason, I recommend avoiding cleaning your ears with a q-tip. You should use a cleaning solution instead.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
