What Causes Blood-tinged Vomitus In An Elderly Person?

Hi, my granny is 94 yrs old and was admitted for vomiting and loose motions 2 weeks back. Now she is relatively fine. She committed dark coffee brown liquidy substance last night and then looked stable and no major complains. What could this be and does this warrant admitting her back?

Hi, the symptoms described could be due to an ulcer in the stomach or cancer. Only way to find out the cause is to do a Gastro-Oesophagoscopy. Meanwhile, put her on a soft diet with Sucralfate liquid, and a liquid antacid 2 tsf three times a day for a week. If there is no recurrence and considering her age, the tests may be deferred. Regards
