Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Bloodshot Eyes With Itching And Floaters?
I have been having really painful eye problems for the past 3 weeks. Last year it began because I was outside a lot and I have really bad allergies. My eyes started getting really bloodshot red and itchy with excessive floaters all under my eyelid. The eye doctor suspected it was from my contacts and allergies so he switched me to one a days, gave me Fluorometholone eye drops, and tested for detachment of retina. The drops helped but the problem has come back again, although I haven’t been outside much at all.
Your symptoms might suggest eye allergy / allergic conjunctivitis. But since it is painful(which is not very common in allergy), it is better to rule out glaucoma (high eye pressure) also. This can be done by measuring eye pressure, which is a simple test. Kindly discuss with your doctor. If allergy is recurring too often, steroid and antihistamine drops may need to be continued for few weeks. Your doctor will guide in this. Meanwhile, try to avoid any triggers like dust, talcum and perfumes.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
