What Causes Bloody Mucus Stool Discharge?

I ate left over hot and sour soup and three left over potstickers. It was around 8pm. At 1 am I had the worst pains in my lower stomach and started throwing up the food. I started going diarreah. I started taking pepto bis all and drinking lots of water. It is 2:30 pm and I still feel lousy. I have had blood and mucus in my stool. My husband just brought me home some 7-up and a banana. When will I start feeling better?k

Hi

Blood and mucus in stool could represent bacterial infections like shigella gastroenteritis.Antibiotics should be administered along with intravenous fluids if dehydration or depletion of fluid volume.

You have also mentioned previous episode of blood and mucus in stool.Hence inflammatory bowel disease or any other gastrointestinal diseases should be ruled out.

Abdominal pain should be treated with antispasmodics and pain killers. Steroids and other immuno-suppressants should be used in case of inflammatory bowel disease.
