What Causes Blotchy Tongue With Severe Cough?

My wife has flu like symptoms and is currently coughing her head off. She also has a blotchy tongue. She has been for the last few days taken all kinds of flu relief drugs (over the Counter), has had a headache, and finished up a Z-pac. Not much better and add to the the blotchy tongue and she is miserable. What to do? My wife is 56, 5"4", generally in good health, gets headaches at times, and really never misses work. Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems like she has cold along with sinus infection and it seems to be a viral infection leading to cold and phlegm, cough, congestion, headache and blotchy tongue is due to inflammation of tongue causing GLOSSITIS and it is also occurring secondary to infection and inflammation..
As she has already finished antibiotic course Z-Pak now she should continue taking decongestant like Phenylephrine, if there is excess of phlegm she can take mucolytics like Bromohexine, take Ibuprofen or Tylenol for headache and body pains, do warm saline gargles and steam inhalation..
For cough she can take cough expectorant containing Guaifenesin..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods, drink plenty of warm fluids and take ample of rest..
For blotchy tongue she can gargle with a numbing mouthwash if there is pain and burning, take Multivitamin supplements and take a soft low spiced diet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
