What Causes Blue Colored Lips While On Eliquis For Blood Clots In Lung?

Husband has blood clots in lung & is taking Eliquis (apixaban). Using for 3 weeks now but his lips are a little blue looking. Should we be concerned? He has been from beginning a little dizzy from it. He is mostly staying in bed, not much walking around, has a catheter in because of bladder & prostate problem. I m concerned about his blue lips & what it means, should we go to emergency room?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Blue lips while on Eliquis is not normal condition. That suggests difficult level of oxygenation most likely. Kindly approach to an ER for evaluation of pulse oximetry, bleeding, clotting time with prothrombin time evaluation and further guidance accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
