What Causes Blue Veins In Upper Arms & Chest?

On several occasions in the past few years there have been times I have noticed the veins in my upper arms and chest are completely blue and visible, abnormally so...it s almost frightening looking, but not a consistent thing. Can you tell me if I should be concerned? 52 year old female.....high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, thyroid disease. Thank You.

Hi,
I dont think you should worry about the obvious veins. They are fairly normal specially in fair white females.
But if it comes and goes then you should get Venous obstruction ruled out.
You can get a Color Doppler test done for your abdominal veins to see whether there is any thrombosis. You can consult your GP and he would be able to advice the test.
But do not worry I dont think its anything serious.
Take care,
Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
