What Causes Blurred Vision And Dizziness Prior To Defecation?

This is the first time this has happened to me. I really needed to have a bowel movement, but I was trying to wait until the person I was talking to stopped talking. Suddenly, my visual became blurry and I felt like I was going to faint. I started becoming hot and sweating as well. I ran to the bathroom and everything became normal after I had a bowel movement. Should I get it checked?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is syncope. During defecation or straining, the blood supply to the brain is partially blocked and cause symptoms.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

A detailed evaluation is required including cardiology work up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
