What Causes Body Discomfort In A Child After Taking Nyquil?
I gave my 7 1/2 yr. Old daughter (70lbs) a half dose of nyquil because if cough and colds. Her body is reacting to it a little weird. She keeps tossing and turning. She said her body wants to sleep but cant. Is there anything i can do? Or shoukd be doing to help her?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Nyquil (acetaminophen/doxylamine/dextromethorphan/pseudoephedrine) is a combinational drug used in cold, sore throat and cough. Though available as over-the-counter, its use in pediatric population below 12 years has to be under the guidance of a pediatrician.
Your daughter might be experiencing excitability as a side effect of the above combination as a side effect. I would suggest you use the above combination only under the guidance of a pediatrician. But for now, if the excitability has come down, nothing needs to be done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nishith R S
