What Causes Body Pain, Headache, Tiredness Ferritin Levels Are Low?

Hi! I have very low ferratin levels. It is 11. I have been having very bad body aches and a headache; Feel tired all the time. My doctor referred me to a hematologist to get IV iron. My question is, will the body aches go away after IV iron. My doctor also suspects fibromyalgia because all the other tests such as RA, Lupus, Lyme disease etc. came out negative. Could it be fibromyalgia causing the muscle aches and pain or the low ferratin? Please help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing us.

I share your concerns about your prolonged illness. In my opinion your body aches are due to fibromyalgia and rest of the symptoms are due to iron deficiency.

Tiredness, headaches are due to anaemia. Low ferritin leads to lower hemoglobin levels. Haemoglobin helps in taking oxygen to all body parts. So deficiency of iron or ferritin or haemoglobin presents in the form of tiredness. You need to increase the intake of iron rich fruits like coarse cereals, jaggery, dates, green leafy vegetables along with iron supplements.

For fibromyalgia, you need to visit surgical specialist. You will require painkillers, steroids and physiotherapy for relief.

I hope my reply will help you. Please write to us for more questions. I wish you good health. Kindly rate this reply. Thanks
