Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Bowel Incontinence After A Colonoscopy?
Yes, thank you. I had colonoscopy three years ago. The Dr. removed some polyps. Since then, every time I go to the bathroom, 20 to 30 minutes later, I find that some feces has come back out. Not much, just enough to cause burning. I then wipe again and everything is OK. But it happens nearly every time I go to the bathroom. I am a 53 year old male. Thank you.
Incontinence after colonoscopy could be due to injury to the anal sphincters. I suggest you to consult your gastroenterologist for clinical assessment and to manage the condition.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
