What Causes Breakthrough Bleeding, Frequent Urination And Nausea At Night?

Hi, I am 45 and nearly 3 weeks late for my period. Just before my period was due I had a bit of light bleeding which is very unusual for me as I am usually very accurate. Then I had no period and now I am nearly 3 weeks late. I have had to pee alot more and cannot go through the night without having to pee once or twice. I also wake up with nausea at night. I am worried I am pregnant as I hear mostly negative feedback on older mothers. Before I go to get a pregnancy test I would like to just get an opinion. It is my understanding that it is virtually impossible to conceive naturally at my age. Many thanks Catherine

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Frequent urination can be due to urinary tract infection (UTI).
I suggest you get a urine culture.
Late periods can be due to the onset of menopause since you are in peri-menopausal age group.
However, you may rule out pregnancy by getting a urine pregnancy test.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
