General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Provera contains medroxyprogesterone that is used in the treatment of various menstrual problems like absent, irregular or heavy menstrual bleeding. It contains progesterone only called medroxyprogesterone that is used to prevent unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses as a contraceptive pill or method. It may cause breast tenderness and enlargement as its side effects.

Other side effects of this medication are nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating, stomach pain, indigestion, tiredness, changes in sleep pattern, mood swings, depression, headache, sweating, fatigue, changes in appetite, impaired wound healing, easily bruising or bleeding, changes in sexual drive, vaginal bleeding, vaginal discharge, allergic reactions etc. These side effects are mild and go away as your body adjusts to this medication. But, if any of these side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should consult your doctor first for medical help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
