What Causes Breathing Difficulties While Suffering From Bronchitis ?

My husband had bronchitis 2 months and has asthma. He was a firefighter for 10 yrs several years ago. Since his recent sickness, he hasn t felt right and now says it feels like he is breathing through cobwebs or cotton candy, fiberglass type of feeling in the upper part of his chest. Some days are worse than others. What could this be?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your husband's situation and problem.
By your history and description, in my opinion he might be having worsening of underlying asthma and bronchitis.
Lung infection is the most common cause for worsening.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Chest x ray
3. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is needed to rule out worsening of bronchitis.
He may need antibiotics, antihistamines and additional inhaled bronchodilators for better symptomatic relief.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to your husband.
Thanks.
