What Causes Breathing Difficulty After A Lung Cancer Surgery?

My nephew, age 37, had non small cell lung cancer in 2015. (non smoker) He had surgery to remove top 2 right lung lobes, followed with chemotherapy. Now, he is having a hard time breathing, while laying flat on his back. He had an xray this week that showed his esophagus is in the wrong place . He is incarcerated in a state prison, and we fear he will not get proper health care. Is this something serious we should push for him to have further tests, if so, what kind?

Dear many people worry that they won't be able to breathe properly if they have had part of a lung removed, or a whole lung removed. But the remaining lung usually adapts and breathing should improve over time. But if breathing difficulty is increasing day by day means he may need to consult your oncologist. It may be due to recurrence of malignancy or pneumonitis or pleural effusion. I think I answered to your question if you have more questions feel free to ask.
