What Causes Breathing Difficulty After Taking Norvasc?

My husband just started on Norvasc at the low dose with no effect and then bumped the dose to 5 mg Q D. He c/o feeling winded today with no other symptoms. Is that a common side effect. I am a nurse and understand the dynamics of medications but he is one where medication usually does not work well. What do you think?
