What Causes Breathing Difficulty Along With Cough Upon Slight Exertion?

My husband has been to several doctors and they can t figure out what s wrong he has difficulty breathing he has a pain in the in his back down by his rib and when he exerts himself he has a little cough if he exerts himself and his voice changes during any exertion I believe he has some acid reflux. His main concern is his breathing he s been checked he does not have a blood clot. His main concern is his breathing he s been checked he does not have a blood clot . also checked his heart and do not see anything there we went to a lung specialist and he can t seem to figure out what s wrong. My husband has been in the heating and air business for all his life we don t know if it has anything with that we are at our wits end can you help us.

Hi,

Noted the history about your husband having breathing difficulty with cough on slight exertion.
The commonest causes can be as follows:
Asthma that is easily missed and can be diagnosed by a proper auscultation after exertion or coughing that gives typical noise, pulmonary function tests without and with bronchodilators.
COPD that is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Any other condition that the respiratory tract has and the following additional investigations can surely help to find the cause.
CT scan of chest.
Bronchoscopy.
All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and thus a proper management.
