General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Episodes of shortness of breath and cough that happen mostly at night bring up the suspicion of asthma. I would advise you to talk to your doctor related to the chance your child has asthma and if asthma treatment should be started.
If asthma is the cause of his symptoms it needs to be treated with inhalers to help his airways to open and ease his breathing.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
