What Causes Breathing Difficulty And Pressure In The Chest After A C-section?
i had a c section with spinal block, they had to administer two doses of ephedra because I had difficulty breathing. Since that happened I often feel that same type of pressure in my chest like its difficult to breathe. If I take a really deep breath. I will normally burp or it will result in hiccups. The pressure often makes me feel lightheaded. I had my son 9 months ago and still have this problem. What is the cause? I never had this problem prior to this c-section. I did have a strong pain from the anesthesiologist inserting the tube down my back on the lower left side and she had to pull it out and push it back down. This was my second c-section the first I had general anesthia because it was an emergency and I was taking heparin due to an active blood clot; however I did not have this chest pain.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* There are many reasons for post spinal anesthesia breathing difficulty as high spinal effect of neuronal numbness through the drug, stress, anxiety related or others.
* As per my surgical experience, these effects are short term and do not remain beyond 24 hours.
* As there is period of 9 months in your case, I strongly recommend to undertake an x-ray chest, pulmonary function test with or without CT scan for best evaluation and management guidelines.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
